![]() My stage 3 A6 build this go around I'm going with rubber seal again. Come to find out the metal around the seal was warped. Lasted 1500 miles and it started leaking. Used Teflon seal flange installed it perfectly. My first rms dealings was on a 2001 APB Allroad. Sorry for the long post but wanted to have all the information stated so I don’t get a bunch of reply’s saying stuff I already knew. has good pictures of the first time which wasn’t installed well, page 2 is where I installed for final time but unfortunately no clear pictures. I do have some pictures in my build thread on page 1-2. I did tons of research last time and I know people have a difficult time with install and was very careful and thought I did everything correctly. ![]() Main reason I’d like to use the rubber seal is cause it will be easier for me to install and thinking there would be less chance of a leak I’d entertain buying another Audi RMS but would rather not spend the $200 again although I absolutely do not want to do this job again and will if you guys think that’s the better route than replacing only the seal with the rubber kind. So I’m assuming it is leaking but would like some confirmation on that before I replace it with the chance of making it worse.Īlso curious if me reinstalling the seal a couple times is something you shouldn’t do even tho it never saw any oil? As of now I’m contemplating replacing just the Teflon seal with the rubber seal I bought awhile ago. Well now that the motor is out I noticed some oil accumulating at bottom of RMS but it’s a very slight amount and unlike last time which had oil all over the inside of flywheel the FW is bone dry. The bolt would be installed on the other side of blue line Haven't had a chance to try installing a new bolt while motor is out but pan will be getting removed regardless I tried to install a bolt while in the car but the subframe was in the way and honestly not sure if it even gets a bolt since I can’t see me missing that. I then removed/reinstalled the RMS (atleast 1-2x and know I did have the lip folded over wrong the first time) but this time I used the install tool which made it a 100x easier and thought I had everything good with using the Teflon seal.Īfter couple thousand miles I had a very slight oil leak which I initially thought was from me missing a bolt on the upper oil pan since the oil seemed to leak from there. I had a difficult time installing the seal using the 2L bottle trick so I bought a rubber replacement seal which came with the install tool. I had all surfaces perfectly clean and dry, bolts TQ to spec, upper pan was removed at same time and was careful on making sure all mating surfaces were lined up correctly. About 2yrs/20k ago I had a RMS leak and replaced it with a new OE Audi seal/plate. I’d press out the old Teflon out and install a new rubber one so less of a chance of having the lip fold over and cause a leak. Short story looking for input on replacing just the seal with a typical rubber type versus the Teflon.
